Sometimes I\u2019ve been lucky with old bulbs sending up new flowers but this year, \u00a0all I saw coming up was leaves and more leaves. So, when I spied a lovely plant already in bud in the grocery store, on sale, I swept it up with the groceries and carefully\u00a0hauled it home.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.summerhouseart.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/01\/fresh-from-above.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter wp-image-3236 size-full\" src=\"https:\/\/www.summerhouseart.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/01\/fresh-from-above.jpg\" alt=\"fresh-from-above\" width=\"450\" height=\"600\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.summerhouseart.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/01\/fresh-from-above.jpg 450w, https:\/\/www.summerhouseart.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/01\/fresh-from-above-225x300.jpg 225w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 450px) 100vw, 450px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>And it was so lovely! And quite prolific! All in all, eight blooms in a most luscious, gorgeous scarlet.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.summerhouseart.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/01\/fresh-close-up.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter wp-image-3235 size-full\" src=\"https:\/\/www.summerhouseart.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/01\/fresh-close-up.jpg\" alt=\"fresh-close-up\" width=\"600\" height=\"402\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.summerhouseart.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/01\/fresh-close-up.jpg 600w, https:\/\/www.summerhouseart.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/01\/fresh-close-up-300x201.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 600px) 100vw, 600px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>But the show was not over, for a couple of artists, when the blooms began to fade.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.summerhouseart.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/01\/faded-flower-w-buddha.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter wp-image-3239 size-full\" src=\"https:\/\/www.summerhouseart.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/01\/faded-flower-w-buddha.jpg\" alt=\"faded-flower-w-buddha\" width=\"432\" height=\"600\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.summerhouseart.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/01\/faded-flower-w-buddha.jpg 432w, https:\/\/www.summerhouseart.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/01\/faded-flower-w-buddha-216x300.jpg 216w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 432px) 100vw, 432px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>The lines and furls of it\u2019s spent blossoms were quite gorgeous too.<\/p>\n<p>And when they fell off I carefully transferred those beautiful spent blooms to the window sill to keep company with a very old Hydrangea bloom, a collection of Buddha ornaments and some blue and white pottery.
